People with Borderline Personality Disorder are unstable in areas such as behavior, relationships with people, self image, and mood. BDP is characterized by sudden changes in mood and unpredictable, self-destructive actions. Patients have difficulty with their self-identity, they have an excessive dependency on others because they have fears of abandonment. Suicidal threats and acts of self-harm are common. It was given the name Borderline because it is a psychological disorder that is a ‘borderline’ between neurotic disorders (which are anxiety disorders), and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.
